Anushka Sharma born on 1st May 1988 is considered by many as the next big thing in the Bollywoodindustry. Before joining the film industry she was a famous model.

Anushka father is an army officer and her mother is a housewife. Her elder brother Karnesh Sharma is a firstclass cricketer.

Anushka Sharma got her first breakthrough when she was signed opposite Shahrukh Khan in Aditya Chopra’s third directorial venture, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi; with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi she signed a three film contract with Yash Raj Films. Her first bollywood venture turned out to be the 2nd biggest grosser of the year and one of the all time hits of the Indian film industry. She received critical acclaim for the movie and she was also nominated for the Best Debut Female & Best actress at the Filmfare Awards.

Her next movie with Yash Raj Films was Badmaash Company directed by Parmeet Sethi. She again won over everyone by her performance in her movie and the movie turned out to be a super hit at the box office. After her performance in Badmaash Company famous movie critic Taran Adarash wrote in his review “Anushka is the new find of the bollywood industry, she looks heavenly and her performance stands out”. Her transformation from the simple housewife in her first movie to the glamorous role in Badmaash Company was something that won everyone over.

Her third venture with Yash Raj Films, Band Baaja Baaraat opposite newcomer Ranvir Singh which release in the December of 2010 turned out be another super hit movie. This was the first time in her short acting career that she was the senior actor in the movie, and she lived up to her growing reputation by giving a splendid performance.

Her performance in Band Baaja Baaraat got her nominations for the best actress in all major award functions and at the IIFA awards in Toronto she won the Award for the best actress. In Feb 2011 her first movie outside Yash Raj Films “Patiala House” was released where she starred opposite Akshay Kumar. Though the movie did not turn out to be a hit, her work in the movie was lauded.

Next she will be seen in another Yash Raj film opposite her Band Baaja Baaraat co-star Ranvir Singh which is set to release in December 2011. She is also rumored to be doing a movie opposite Shahrukh Khan & Katrina Kaif which will be directed by the maestro Yash Chopra himself, the movie is still untitled, and is slated to be released in October 2012. Apart from being a great actress Anushka Sharma is recognized as a good dancer, her song Dance pe chance from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Long ka Lashkara from Patiala House & Ainvayi Ainvayi from the movie Band Baaja Baaraat have all become super hits.

In a short time Anushka Sharma has become one of the leading ladies of the bollywoodindustry. Every big banner wants to sign her; every director wants to work with her. She has proved the age old notion wrong that “Models can’t act” as she was won everyone over with her ability to do diverse roles. Yet she remains a humble and down to earth person, which is proved by one of her recent interviews where she told the media that “When it comes to my growth as an actor I am never confident, but I am very confident of my growth as a person”.

In her personal life she is rumored to be dating her Band Baaja Baaraat co-star Ranvir Singh, though she has remained tight lipped as they wants to keep her personal life a secret.
